Interact with colonial art figures in York

The interactive art display by William Penn High School students will be part of the Olde York Street Fair May 8

William Penn High School students are painting colonial figures that will allow the public to interact with the art during the 41st Annual Olde York Street Fair on May 8.

The acrylic paintings on wood will be hinged and the faces cut out. There will be eight figures total, four adults and four children that people can stand behind and become part of the scene.

The art installation is part of the 40th anniversary observance of the Colonial Courthouse.

Art teacher William Valyo drew the base lines for the paintings, while the students fill in the colors and textures.

Marialuz Rojas, a junior, said that staying in the lines with the acrylic paint is the biggest challenge.

Morgan Grosby, a sophomore, said that loading the right amount of paint was a challenge on the large boards when they are standing upright so that the paint doesn’t run.
