Appell to be honored at candlelight memorial in York
A private service for Appell will be held this weekend, his obituary says.
Downtown Inc. will hold a candlelight moment of remembrance and appreciation Friday in honor of the late Louis Appell Jr.
The memorial is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. at Continental Square.
It is appropriate that the event is scheduled during First Friday. Appell, who died Monday at 92, and his wife, Jody, often attended First Friday events.
A private service for Appell is planned for this weekend, according to his obituary, which did not list details.
The family is asking that donations in lieu of flowers be sent to the Fund for York County at the York County Community Foundation, Strand Capitol Performing Arts Center, York County Heritage Trust, York Symphony Orchestra, the Farm and Natural Lands Trust or to a favorite charity.
In his memory
The York County Community Foundation is asking the community to "honor Louis' incredible philanthropic spirit" by engaging in the Appell Acts of Kindness Campaign.
"...donate to your favorite charity, volunteer, do something nice for someone in need, pay it forward..." the foundation requests.
The group also urges people to share memories of Appell on social media using #RememberMrAppell.
