Shank's Mare event combines art, love of the river

As many as 400 people were expected to turn out for the seventh annual event

Artists and craftspeople, offering everything from duck decoys to goat's milk soap, mingled with those who love the Susquehanna River at Shank's Mare Outfitters Saturday during the store's seventh annual Art & Outdoor Fest.
Representatives of several nature-oriented organizations including the Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association, York County Rail Trail Authority and York Audubon Society were also on hand to discuss their organizations and hand out brochures.

The event celebrates Shank's Mare's 38th year in business. Owners Liz and Steve Winand opened their shop in July 1978 in downtown York. They moved to their current location, on Long Level Road in Lower Windsor Township, across the street from the Susquehanna River, in 1996.
