More pastry, beer options open in York

Craft beer aficionados and pastry lovers should be happier this week with two new establishments opening their doors in downtown York.

In addition, a popular local sandwich chain announced plans to open a restaurant in the heart of York.

A pastry shop with high hopes

Every successful restaurant chain has to start somewhere. Paul Krinitsin and Derrick Gray hope that the next successful chain will start at 24 S. George St.

“By this time next year, we’re trying to be franchised,” Krinitsin, 34, said of Pastries of France, which opened Monday.

“We went from location to location looking for the perfect spot and we ended up in this one,” Krinitsin said. “I always found York to be very comfortable and very cozy.”

The pastry shop features a mixture of pastries, fresh breads, sandwiches, ice creams, coffee and espressos. They will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

A craft brewery in Royal Square

Collusion Tap Works co-owner and head brewer Jared Barnes had not been able to brew and sell beer in more than a year, but that was to change Friday night with the opening of Collusion.

“It’s about time,” Barnes joked to the Daily Record in August.

The brewery at 105 S. Howard St. off of East Kind Street is the third craft brewer in York and the fourth in the York area.

Barnes said his brewery will have 24 beers on tap and features a relaxed atmosphere, with picnic games such as cornhole, washers and shuffleboard available to play on premise.

“I just like to be in a place where I can sit, hang out and drink some good beers,” Barnes said.

Isaac’s on the horizon

Word came earlier this week that Isaac’s Famous Grilled Sandwiches is slated to open a restaurant in downtown York.

The 50-seat restaurant will occupy a section of the former Weinbrom Jewelers building.

Isaac’s plans to apply for a BYOB permit that would allow customers to bring their own beer and wine, Mike Weaver, Isaac’s CEO said.

The restaurant is expected to open early next year.
