York Saint Patrick's Day Parade draws thousands


An estimated 15,000 visited downtown York for the festivities Saturday.

Bagpipers, Irish dancers, and thousands decked out in green filled city streets Saturday for the annual York Saint Patrick's Day Parade.

An estimated 15,000 flocked downtown for the festivities, according to parade organizer Mary Yeaple. The day included pre-parade performances by several dance and musical groups, and some downtown businesses served Irish fare like shepherd's pie to keep visitors busy when the parade was finished winding through town. Here's a look at the parade entries that took top prizes:

Grand Prize- Best of Parade Winner: CLAN WALSH

Best Decorated Vehicle (Commercial): York Revolution Baseball Team; Honorable mention: Martin’s Potato Chips

Best Decorated Vehicle (Non-Commercial):  Penn-Mar Irish Festival; Honorable mention: Goodwill Fire Co. of York Township

Best Antique Vehicle: Harvey Lilly; Honorable mention: Perry Old Iron Collectors

Best Individual/Family Group:  Celtic Trio; Honorable mention: Irish Blessing

Best Float: York Fish & Oyster Co.; Honorable mentions: St. Patrick School and York Water Company

Best Non Profit Organization: May Day Fairie Festival at Spoutwood Farm; Honorable mentions: York County Heritage Trust, Girls on the Run, Martin Library

Best Honor Guard: Cedar Cliff High School Army JROTC; Honorable mention: York County Sheriff’s Honor Guard
