Twelve blocks of the AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on display at Marketview Arts in York through Saturday.
The quilt, which now has more than 48,000 panels bearing more than 94,000 names, began in 1987 in San Francisco as a way to memorialize those who had died of AIDS. As many as 3,000 quilt blocks, which typically feature eight panels designed by organizations or individuals, are displayed in dozens of cities every year, according to The NAMES Project Foundation.
Family First Health, with support from WellSpan Health and York College, is displaying the 12 blocks, some of which feature local AIDS victims, 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. Friday, June 24, and 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, June 25. The display is free and open to the public.
