Popular Celtic band comes to Waynesboro


WAYNESBORO - Destination ARTS! activities for the Jan. 14-17 weekend include art exhibits and special events at Gallery 50 (50 W. Main St.), 42 West ARTS (42 W. Main St.), The Contemporary School of the Arts & Gallery (10 E. Main St.), The Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (13 S. Church St.), and Gallery 20 East (20 E. Main St.).  All events are free unless otherwise indicated:

Thursday, Jan. 14

Donna Bingaman will be demonstrating oil painting at 42 West ARTS from 1-3 p.m.

Marjorie Tressler, Gallery 50 curator/ director, will do her weekly oil painting demonstration from 2-4 p.m.

Friday, Jan. 15

"Wine Down Friday" activities and receptions are planned at Gallery 50 (50 W. Main St.), 42 West ARTS Co-Op (42 W. Main St.),Through the Lens & Beyond (38 W. Main St.), the Ceramic Arts Center of Waynesboro (13 S. Church St.), and Gallery 20 East from 5-8 p.m.

The popular Irish music of Across the Pond will be featured in Gallery 50 from 5:30-8 p.m.  “The most booked Celtic band in Central PA” features Michael Morrison (guitar, mandolin, flue and vocals), Chuck Krepley (fiddle, banjo, vocals) and Dan Diviney (whistles, bodhran, vocals).  All members of the trio are passionate about their traditional roots but say their music is also delivered with a modern edge, with a repertoire ranging from hauntingly slow aires to high energy jig and reels, love ballads and contemporary songs.

Gallery 20 East will feature a new show featuring the paintings and ceramics of Michael Minster, presenting a collection of his work created over the past 18 years. The show will run during regular gallery hours for two weeks only, closing on Jan. 24.

There will be a reception with the artist on Saturday, Jan. 16.

The artists at 42 West ARTS Co-op will present a new winter show, "Let it Snow".  Featured artists are  Andy Smetzer (photographer),  Donna Bingaman (oil painting),  Lorie Linthicum (creative pottery),  Tom McFarland (painting),  Denny Bingaman (photography),  Rod and Karri Benedict (pottery),  Ed Beard (wood burning),  Hollis Mentzer (nature printing),  Laura Shindle (painting),  Bob North (tinsmithing),  Jennifer Caldwell (silver jewelry), and Debra Woods (dolls and folk art). A reception will be held from 5-8 p.m.

Patric Schlee will be creating original improvisational music on flute and drums at 42 West ARTS Co-Op. The public is invited to join in.

Saturday, Jan. 16

Art Demonstration Saturday! Galleries open noon-6 p.m.

From 1-3 p.m. in 42 West ARTS Co-op, Denny Bingaman will be demonstrating cold cast metal sculpting of wildlife in a rubber mold made from the original work.

An artist reception will be held from 2-4 p.m in Gallery 20 East to celebrate the opening of a new show featuring the painting and ceramics of Michael Minster. The show will present a collection of his work over the past 18 years. Minster’s art is abstract, colorful, animated, decorative, and thoughtful. He notes his influences as “Picasso, Warhol, kitsch art, and street art, to name a few. I will have painting small and large, and a wide variety of ceramics objects on display.” His work will be available to view through Jan. 24.
