Maryland Wine Fest to host more than 40 wineries
More than 40 wineries from across the Free State will be part of the Maryland Wine Festival Sept. 19-20 at the Carroll County Farm Museum, 500 S. Center St., Westminster.
Festival hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Two dozen food vendors will tempt visitors with everything from barbecue and crab cakes to baked goods and ice cream. New this year will be the Maryland Cheese Pavilion featuring local cheeses. There will also be more than 100 arts and craft vendors, exhibits and demonstrations.
The third annual Maryland Throw Down will pit Maryland wines against those from Oakland, Calif., in a blind taste test. The competition includes wines from the region of the Ravens' opponents during the festival weekend. Baltimore faces the Raiders Sept. 20.
Entertainment begins both days at 11 a.m. Saturday's lineup includes the Robert Allen Blues Band, Foreplay, and Wyldefire. Sunday's performers will be Standard Delivery, Jah Works, and Back Pages Band.
Some parking is available on site, and shuttles will run from two locations in Westminster: Carroll Community College, 1601 Washington Road; and the Carroll County Office Building, 225 N. Center St.
Admission is $27 in advance, $30 at the gate, and includes wine samples, a logo-engraved glass and guided tours of the museum's 19th century farmhouse. Tickets for designated drivers and ages 13 to 20 are $20. Purchase tickets at missiontix.com. For complete details, visit marylandwine.org.
