Shippensburg streets abloom May 2 at Bloom Festival

SHIPPENSBURG >> The streets of Shippensburg will come alive with color, scent, music and activities that signify the arrival of one of the most breath-taking seasons of the year — springtime. Just as gardens and lawns begin to open in delicate shades and vibrant hues of spring flowers, some areas of downtown Shippensburg will bloom during its first Bloom Festival, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 2 in designated areas of town.

Presented by Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce, the event is free, although some vendors may charge a small fee for activities, and will take place rain or shine.

Flowers and local produce will be sold, along with crafts and food. No streets will be closed for festivities. Food, crafts and retail vendors will be in the Shippensburg Borough parking lot along Burd Street, with access from either King Street or McCreary Avenue.

Children's activities will be available along McCreary Avenue until 2 p.m.

Free parking will be available in front of the Firefighters Activities Center, 33 W. Orange St. Fire police will be in place along King Street at a new pedestrian walkway between the post office and the Shippensburg Historical Society, at 46 and 52 W. King St., respectively. Maps will be available.
