Old Mont Alto Park destination of Antietam Ramblers May 9


MONT ALTO >> The May 9 Antietam Ramble will be "In Old Mont Alto Park.".

The group Antietam Ramblers will meet at 9 a.m. in the Parlor House, 724 S. Potomac St., Waynesboro, for breakfast and orientation.

All attendees must buy breakfast from the menu.

At the restaurant, Beverly Spicer will talk to the group about the history of Mont Alto Park. A longtime resident of Mont Alto, Spicer founded Mont Alto Historical Society and spearheaded the movement to restore the bell-shaped pavilion in the park.

Following breakfast and orientation, the Ramblers will caravan to Mont Alto Park, where Mont Alto resident Sid Miller will lead a hike through the old park.

The primary purpose of the tour is to identify sites of the original features of old Mont Alto Park, which flourished in the last quarter of the 19th century.

The Antietam Ramblers are a study group of Antietam Historical Association, taking field trips to natural and historic sites in the region in Maryland and Pennsylvania drained by Antietam Creek.
