Totem Pole Playhouse: 65 years of endless summer fun in the valley

This year, Totem Pole Playhouse, 9555 Golf Course Road, celebrates 65 years of first-class summer theater productions. Seasonal campers in nearby Caledonia State Park can take advantage of entertainment throughout the summer.

This year's highlights include side-splitting comedies like "The Nerd," beginning May 29 and continuing through June 14, and family musicals like "Shenandoah," beginning June 19 and continuing through July 5.

Slated for July 10, Granville Van Dusen brings his acclaimed one-man play, "The Memoirs of Abraham Lincoln" to the Totem Pole Playhouse stage to mark the 150th anniversary of the beloved statesman's death.

Fans of "Grease" will be pleased to learn that the musical will be coming to Totem Pole for the first time on July 31 and will continue through August 16. The fun-filled summer continues with a tribute to Patsy Cline and Hank Williams, Sr. starting August 18 and continuing through August 23.

For budding young thespians, Totem Pole offers children and teens a summer camp where they can hone their acting skills and a "comedy and improv" camp for those aged 10-18.

Totem Pole will wrap up its season in December with a holiday favorite, "A Christmas Carol," an always well-attended and fitting end to a year's worth of spectacular entertainment. This timeless dramatic production will take place in Capitol Theatre, 159 S. Main St., Chambersburg.
