Register by July 11 for George Weigel gardening talks in Camp Hill

CAMP HILL >> George Weigel, central Pennsylvania's garden writer and Cumberland County Penn State Extension Master Gardener, on July 11 will offer two fun and informative presentations about using native plants in your garden.

An entertaining speaker, Weigel will present the two programs from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the lower level community room at Cleve J. Fredricksen Library, 100 N. 19th St.

He will first share his top 25 best garden-worthy native plants for Pennsylvania gardens in "Going Native? PA Plants for PA Yards." Even with native plants, you still have to select the right plant for the right place. Native does not necessarily mean no maintenance and no problems; and Weigel will point out good and not-so-good traits of some native plants available at local garden centers.

Then, in "Gardening with Mother Nature," Weigel will turn to the world's best gardener, Mother Nature, for cues on becoming a kinder, gentler, better gardener, while saving unnecessary work in the process.

Weigel will also sign copies of his two new books, available for sale at a discounted price of $20 each: "Pennsylvania Getting Started Garden Guide" and "Pennsylvania Month-by-Month Gardening."

The fee for this three-hour Saturday workshop is $10 and includes refreshments and handouts. Space is limited, so registration is requested by July 7.

To register, call the Extension office at 1-888-697-0371, Ext. 6500.
