Rural Life Festival takes you back July 11 to the 'olden days'

NEWBURG >> Spend a day in the past July 11 at the Rural Life Festival, presented by Newburg United Methodist Church, 203 N. High St.

Admission and parking are free at this annual outdoor-indoor event that showcases some nearly forgotten homespun crafts and life skills.

Beginning at 9 a.m., on display will be antique farm machinery and small engines. There will be a working steam engine, a grain thrashing demonstration and a horse-drawn binder.

Food preparation will be in progress throughout the day, including scrapple making, fresh apple cider pressing and bread baking -- from grain to loaf.

Children may compete in a pedal tractor pull and there will be horse-drawn wagon rides and a barrel train for youngsters to ride in.

There will also be a petting zoo on site.

Other hands-on activities will include potato raising, cow milking, butter making, sheep shearing, spinning and weaving, quilting, broom making, blacksmithing and woodworking.

There will be live music as well as an indoor auction.

Home made soup and barbecued chicken will be sold, as will home made ice cream, hand-cut french fries, sandwiches and more.

At 7 p.m., local bluegrass gospel band Guilford Station will perform.

Sunday

A morning outdoor worship service will take place at 10:30 a.m. July 12 at the church, with lunch to follow.
