'Carousel': York County actors star in Gettysburg show

A real-life husband and wife will play the lead roles of two lovers in the Gettysburg Community Theatre's "Carousel."

Catherine and Lee Howard will take the stage at the York Street theater as Julie Jordan and Billy Bigelow starting June 12.

The Yoe Borough couple has been married for almost 10 years. Though they have performed together before, this is the first time the two will play lovers.

Also featured in the cast is Hanover's Karen Bureau, who plays the role of Nettie.

"Carousel," a story of love and redemption, is set along the New England coast in the late 19th century, director Chad-Alan Carr said in a news release. The musical was originally produced in 1945.

"The characters in 'Carousel' are imperfect people; they are human and living in a difficult time and place," he said. "Love and passion, abuse and disappointment are important and relevant topics to address as are faith, forgiveness and enduring to the end, and each of those topics is a part of the show."
