3 kabob recipes in honor of the York Revolution's Brews & Skews event
The pitch for the York Revolution's Brews & Skews event — which allows people to sample 12 beers and at least eight kabobs — was simple:
"You got music, food on a stick and brew," said Adam Nugent, the director of special events for the York Revolution. "What else could you want?"
The event, which is also sponsored by York Traditions Bank and Eventive, will be held at Brooks Robinson Plaza outside Santander Stadium in York on Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m. Admission to Brews & Skews is free, and the event also features live music and activities ranging from laser tag to a tasting contest in which people try to guess whether they're eating a chip or a cricket.
In honor of Brews & Skews, here are three homemade kabobs you can make on your own:
1. Sausage and pepper kabob:
Ingredients (for 12):
• 1 pack of Polish sausage
• 1 sweet onion
• 2 green bell pepper
Directions:
Cut all ingredients into 1-inch pieces. Put the items on the skewer. Cook on the grill until the protein is cooked and the vegetables are crispy.
2. Chicken Teriyaki kabob:
Ingredients (for 12):
• 1 lbs. of chicken breast
• Teriyaki sauce
• 2 red bell peppers
• 1 lbs. of pre-cut pineapple chunks
Directions:
Cut all ingredients into 1-inch pieces. Marinate the chicken in teriyaki sauce. Put ingredients on the skewer. Cook on the grill until the ingredients are ready. When grilling the chicken, glaze it with extra sauce.
3. Old Bay shrimp boil kabob:
Ingredients (for 12):
• 1 lbs. of shrimp (16-20)
• 3 ears of corn
• 3 red potatoes
• Old Bay seasoning
Directions:
Cut the corn into 3-inch chunks, and the potatoes into 1-inch slices. Parboil the corn and potatoes — otherwise they won't be done by the shrimp is ready. Cook on the grill until the ingredients are done. Tip: metal skewers are easier to use, as it can be difficult to get the corn on wood ones without breaking them.
