Hanover salon plans open house with music, food

When Rock Paper Scissors Salon opened a little more than a year ago, staff members knew they wanted to get involved in Hanover's downtown community, despite the fact that their shop sits a few blocks from Center Square.

They have spent the past year networking with other businesses, building a client base and carving out a niche for themselves in not-quite-downtown Hanover.

Now, they're ready to celebrate. And they want other Hanoverians to join them.

Rock Paper Scissors will host its Roshambo Open House July 11 from 2 to 9 p.m. in the salon at 455 Carlisle St. Although the event is an open house for the salon, the staff also hopes to bring together locals and other Hanover businesses, said event organizer Joy Nunn.

Boneyard Barbecue will provide food, Simplicity Cycles will present demos and Aldus Brewing Company will hand out samples. Local bands Macy K OFHD, Hey Rube, Steel Pirate and Olde Tigers will play throughout the event.

The open house will also feature a rock-paper-scissors tournament, with the $10 entry fee going to the Duke University Cancer Center on behalf of salon client Kelly Beck.
