York College Fall Fest includes 5K, comedy, music and more


Activities including sports, comedy, a 5K and music are planned for York College's Fall Fest Weekend Oct. 2 and 3.

Here's a look at what's happening:

· The Spartan Advance Annual Golf Fundraiser at the Country Club of York raises money for the college athletic program. The golf fundraiser starts with lunch at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 2 and a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Dinner and awards begin at 6. Register online.

· Lindsay Benner, an actor and comedian, will perform 9 p.m. Oct. 2 in the Waldner Performing Arts Center. Her performances including acting, physical comedy and juggling. The event is free.

· The 5K will be run Oct. 3. Registration will be 7 to 8:15 a.m. at the Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center's concession area, with a race start time of 8:30. A Spartakids Fun Run, for children 12 and under, will be at 8 a.m., with registration from 7 to 7:45 a.m. Entry fee with online registration at YCPAlumni.com is $10 for students and $25 for York College alumni and employees and community members. Online registration closes Oct. 1, but race day registration is welcome; the fee is $30 on the day of the event. The fun run is free. For more information, email alumni@ycp.edu.

· There are several athletic events Oct. 3: noon, volleyball vs. Southern Virginia; 12:30 p.m., field hockey vs. Mary Washington; 12:30 p.m., women's soccer vs. Frostburg; and 3 p.m., men's soccer vs. Christopher Newport.

· The fall festival on the Main Campus lawn will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct 3 and feature student organization fundraisers and live music by Brent and Company. The Step Show, a display of the rhythmic and precise stepping of historically black Greek fraternities and sororities, will begin at 2 p.m.

· A Prism Concert will be at 4 p.m. Oct. 3 in the Waldner Performing Arts Center. The program includes both faculty and student musicians.

· Larry and Raven, a mentalism duo, will entertain 8 p.m. Oct. 3 in the Waldner Performing Arts Center. The event is free.
