All-styles dance battle comes to York

York’s New Grounds Roasting Company will soon transform into the scene of an all-styles dance battle.

The event, organized by local dancer Dandre R. Deshields and sponsored by Greater York Dance, will bring together dancers of all ages and styles to compete for $100, $200 and $500 grand prizes March 12, according to a news release.

“The main goal is to try to build a b-boy (breakdance) dance scene in York, Harrisburg and Lancaster,” Deshields said in the release. “I see kids outside practicing dance on the streets without a studio or an upcoming competition … My goal is to bring more dance battles and other events to the local community. To show people that violence and crime isn’t the way.”

The doors will open at 12:30 p.m., and the battle starts at 1:30 p.m. An intermission will be followed by a hip hop performance by Promise Jones and Frankie Petrelli.

Admission is $10 at the door and $15 to battle.
