6 things to do in York this weekend

Looks like we're headed for another hot summer weekend.

But don't let the heat keep you indoors. Grab an ice cream cone for National Ice Cream Day, stay cool at a local water attraction or take a relaxing moonlight boat ride.

Here are six fun things to do in York County.

Wine and movie night

A glass of wine, a bowl of popcorn and a rom-com? We can’t think of a better way to spend a ladies’ night than Naylor Wine Cellars’ outdoor movie event Hollywood and Vines. The winery at 4069 Vineyard Road, Stewartstown, will show “French Kiss,” starring Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline, on an outdoor screen Friday at dusk. Tickets are $10 and include a wine tasting and popcorn. But make sure to bring your own lawn chairs and blankets! Gates open at 7:30 p.m. Visit naylorwine.com for more info.

Cheers to Mudhook Brewing Co.'s anniversary

Mudhook Brewing Co., 34 N. Cherry Lane, York, is celebrating its five-year anniversary this weekend. And in honor of this milestone, they’re giving away free pint glasses to the first 50 guests on Friday and Saturday. The event starts at 5 p.m., so come early if you want a glass! The brewery will also offer $1 off all pints Friday through Sunday.

Come for the beer, but stay for the music. Here’s the weekend’s live music lineup:

Take a moonlight boat ride

Looking for a summer date night idea? Spend a romantic evening on Lake Redman under the stars Saturday or Sunday. You’ll learn about summer constellations from an amateur astronomer and experience the serenity of the calm lake on this moonlight boat ride starting at 8:30 p.m. The experience will begin at the Lake Redman boat launch at William H. Kain Park, 267 Hess Farm Road in Springfield Township. Rentals cost $30 for two people or $20 for a private boat. Every additional person is $5. Visit yorkcountyparks.org, email parks@yorkcountypa.gov or call 717-840-7440 for more info.

Celebrate National Ice Cream Day

July is National Ice Cream Month, and Sunday is National Ice Cream Day. So, don’t forget to celebrate with a scoop or two at your favorite ice cream shop. Here are 12 ice cream parlors worth a trip to Lancaster. Or, try one of these shops in the Hanover-Adams area. Or, if you’re up for a game of mini golf, try one of these ice cream and golf combos in York County.

Cool off at one of these local spots

It’s going to be another hot weekend. So, hope you’re planning some fun ways to stay cool. From splash pads to kayaking to waterparks, here are a few ways to beat the heat in the region.

Willing to travel? Check out a vintage baseball festival.

This baseball tournament won’t look quite like the games you’re used to seeing. Eighteen teams from across the country are coming to Schroeder Family Farm in Gettysburg to play the game like it was played in 1863. That means underhand pitches, catching the ball with bare hands and funny uniforms. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, guests can watch the games, munch on ballpark food and check out displays of 19th century equipment. And on Friday, the public will have a chance to learn to play the game themselves. Click here for details.

Or, just continue playing Pokemon Go.
