SHIPPENSBURG >> Bearding Man will host the inaugural US Air Guitar Central PA Qualifier on April 25 at The Thought Lot.

Air guitar veterans and newbies alike will compete for a chance to advance to the US Air Guitar Semifinals in Washington D.C.

Champions at the semifinal level will compete in the US Air Guitar Nationals for a chance to represent America in Oulu, Finland on August 26-28 at the 20th Air Guitar World Championships.

This year, for the first time ever, the path to Finland begins in Shippensburg. Event organizer, Jason Stauffer, explained his inspiration, "Years ago I watched an epic documentary called 'Air Guitar Nation.' Recently, I did a little research and found on the US Air Guitar website that it would be possible to host a Qualifier. I figured if we can pull this off someone from the area is only three wins away from representing the country in Finland. It would be a disservice not to host this."

Competitors will perform a one-minute segment of a song or combination of songs of their choosing. The top scores from the first round will move on to the second round where each competitor will have to air out a one-minute performance to a song selected by the host. The winners will be determined by the combined total from both rounds. The judges will be dishing out scores from 4.0 to 6.0 based on three main criteria: technical merit, stage presence, and "Airness."

The evening's air guitar performances will be judged by WQCM radio personality Mickey "The Kid" English, the president of Six O'clock Shadow Beards and owner of Dr. Donegal's beard tonic Scott Hart, and Pennsylvania travel blogger Jim Cheney of

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the show starting at 7:30. The event is BYOB, food will be available from The Falafel Shack, Mosaic Coffee Company, and Gumbo & Goodies.

Tickets for spectators are $7 in advance, $10 at the door, and it is $10 to compete. For more information, and to purchase tickets visit
