Take a great big bite out of Applefest

CHAMBERSBURG - Chambersburg AppleFest will be held on the main streets of downtown Chambersburg from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.

Organized by the Downtown Business Council, the popular festival celebrates one of the region's best crops with cider, apple pie, apple butter, apple dumplings, candy apples, caramel apples and all things apple.

Always the third Saturday of October, AppleFest is a free family event offering art, food, crafts, live music on two stages, kids' activities and rides.

Organizers of this year's event say they're expecting 8,000-10,000 people throughout the day.

In addition to apple fare, about 20 different food vendors will offer traditional festival selections such as fries, steak and sausage sandwiches, funnel cakes, ice cream, popcorn, ethnic foods and health foods. Cafe d' Italia will have cannolis and other treats.

Approximately 150 vendors, including many local and regional artists, will sell a variety of handcrafted items. Vendors must be vetted by the Downtown Business Council; mass produced items made overseas are not accepted.

Community agencies and nonprofit organizations also will be set up.

The North Square Farmers Market will be going on all day with vendors offering fresh fruits, vegetables, honey and cheese, as well as the Falafel Shack Middle Eastern cafe.

There will be pop up retail from The Foundry, the new Artist's Cooperative in Chambersburg, set to open up shop in the former Potomac Bead Company building.

Main Street will be closed from King to Washington Street, and Lincoln Way will be closed from Second to Franklin during the event.
