Luke from 'Gilmore Girls' showed up at a Luke's Diner pop-up

More than 200 coffeehouses were turned into Luke's Diners on Wednesday morning, but only one of them was visited by the real Luke.

Scott Patterson, who we first saw in the role of Lorelai's love interest and diner owner Luke Danes exactly 16 years ago on Gilmore Girls, surprised fans at around 9:30 a.m. when he showed up at the Beverly Hills Luke's Diner pop-up (formerly known as Comoncy). Some fans waiting in the very long line greeted him in song.

After Patterson's warm welcome, he came into the diner, saw a cardboard cutout of himself and helped serve coffee. He even autographed a few cups, which had quotes from the TV show hidden under the sleeve.

Ashley Saunders, a Gilmore Girls fan who started waiting in line at Luke's a little after 6 a.m. , showed us the coffee cup she'd been nursing.

"I brought a book, was drinking coffee, felt like Rory," she said.

The event was put on by Netflix to celebrate the anniversary of Gilmore Girls and get fans hyped for the reprised series, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Lifewhich premieres in four parts on the streaming service Nov. 25.
