Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton finally make amends — at least, on ‘SNL’

As a contentious election season nears a close, we find ourselves longing for that cliché beauty pageant answer: world peace. Which is exactly what Saturday Night Live gave us during its open this weekend.

Of course, before calling for a verbal ceasefire, our candidates Hillary Clinton (Kate McKinnon) and Donald Trump (Alec Baldwin) exchanged blows, after all writers had a lot of material to work with this week.

FBI Director James Comey’s announcement of additional Clinton emails didn’t go unaddressed by Erin Burnett (Cecily Strong).

Even The Donald kissing an FBI agent wasn’t enough to get Strong’s Burnett to drop the topic.

Or when he kissed Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Or a member of the KKK for that matter.

“Donald Trump has single-handedly ruined,” McKinnon’s Clinton said, “so much of what, we as Americans, hold dear: kindness, decency, Tic Tacs, Skittles, taco bowls, father-daughter dances, buses, bright red hats, the word ‘great,’ the color orange, men.”

Baldwin began to reply with insults, but had a “huge” change of heart. “I’m sorry, Kate. I just hate yelling all this stuff at you like this,” he said.

“Yeah, I know right?” McKinnon replied. “This whole election has been so mean.”

“I mean I just feel gross all the time,” Baldwin said. “Don’t you guys feel gross all the time about this?”

“You know what I think can help us?” McKinnon asked. “Let’s get out of here.”

While holding hands the impersonators ran out of the studio into Times Square. They handed out balloons and schmoozed a baby. McKinnon hugged Trump supporters and gobbled cotton candy while Baldwin gave her a piggyback ride, reminding us that humanity is not just a figment of our imaginations.

“And we can’t tell you who to vote for,” McKinnon told the studio audience, “but on Tuesday we all get a chance to choose what kind of country we want to live in.”
